Making Peace with the Past:

If you don't make peace with your past

it will keep showing up in your present.                                                                                                                                               - Wayne Dyer

Striking the Set

"Striking the set" is a term used in theater and film production. It means to take down or remove the set pieces, props, and other materials used for a particular production after the final performance has taken place.

This process involves dismantling, discarding, storing the set, and returning the space to its original state, often with the help of a crew.  "Striking the set" is an important part of the production process, as it allows the venue or theater to be prepared for the next production or event.

"Striking the set" can also be used as a metaphor for a process of reevaluating and dismantling one's core beliefs and mental patterns in order to build new, healthier ones. In this context, it involves identifying and letting go of old patterns of thought and behavior that are no longer serving you and actively working to replace them with new ones that are more aligned with your values and goals.

This process can be facilitated through therapy, self-reflection, and personal growth work.  When you "strike the set" of your old mental patterns, you can create space for new ways of thinking and being, which can lead to greater well-being, resilience, and personal fulfillment.

At Every Age Every Stage, we have a specific tool for you to use while you “STRIKE the SET” in your own life. Your therapist can assist you in this process.

The acronym for STRIKE the SET is:

SIT STILL: With the experience, whether past or present.

TAKE TIME: With the process, don’t rush it, allow space for it to be what it is.

REFLECT on REALITY: What is/was true? Be gentle and compassionate.

INTERNAL INQUIRY: Be curious, question, and learn.

KEEP GOING: Don’t stop when it gets hard. You’re growing.

EVOLVE: Into your most genuine and authentic self.
